Some people choose to wear a swimsuit, just as they would at the beach. But, because of the privacy of indoor tanning, most tan in the nude to avoid tan lines. Any skin that has never been exposed to ultraviolet light before will be more sensitive. These parts must acquire a tan slowly. Cut down the exposure time for these areas to 1/3 or less of the total time recommended by your tanning professional. When you can’t see any tan lines on your body at all, it’s okay to expose that skin the same length of time as the rest of your body.

Indoor tanning lotions add nutrients your body needs to produce melanin. We carry lotions that contain vitamin A, C, E, and botanicals that moisturize and increase blood flow, thus increasing oxygenation of melanin cells to help speed up the tanning process. A lot of our lotions also contain DHA the tanning affect in spray tanning solution. UV rays reflect off of dry skin, the moisturizers in tanning accelerators help you absorb UV rays for better results. You will tan about twice as fast and keep your tan twice as long.
-
NO, just as the word indicates outdoor products should ONLY be used outdoors, as they can cause a film on the acrylic. This actually inhibits the tanning process, rather than acting as an amplifying agent. We carry many excellent indoor tanning products for that purpose.

To build an awesome tan, tan regularly. Allowing too much time between visits will cause your tan to fade. Most people will see a skin color change after the first few sessions. Normally, you will have a good base tan in 6-10 sessions. Then one or two sessions a week thereafter will maintain your tan year round. There are special cells in the skin called melanocytes. UV B rays stimulate these cells and cause them to produce melanin. As these cells migrate to the surface of the skin, UV A rays oxidize them; thus creating a tan. Each of us has a different amount of melanin. Fair-skinned, fair-haired people generally have less than dark-haired, dark-skinned people. This determines, for the most part, how quickly and how dark your skin will tan.

Moisturize! Moisturize! Healthy skin tans faster, darker, and retains a tan longer. Drink plenty of water and make sure to keep your skin moisturized with a high quality lotion especially formulated-for-tanning. Your skin is constantly renewing itself. The dryer your skin is, the faster it wants to shed its top layers and bring new skin to the surface. You lose the top layers, you lose your tan. Dry layers on the surface of your skin will block the UV rays from getting to the other layers to tan them. Even with moisturizing you will still need to maintain a tanning schedule of every 4 to 5 days, or at least once a week, to keep your tan, because your skin is reproducing new cells all the time.

The FDA requires 24 hours between tanning sessions. We recommend allowing at least 1 day in-between sessions whenever time allows.
You can do a “Double Dip” though! To get an “instant” tan or an “extra boost” to your tan you should consider getting a Spray Tan immediately after tanning in a bed. In just seconds you can have the natural-looking just-off-the-beach color you desire. Spray tanning is allowed on the same day as a traditional tanning session.
-
Yes, but if you can we recommend waiting. UV tanning is a process that can take up to 24 hours to develop. You can not “wash” away your tan, unless you are using a self tanner, shaving right away, or by exfoliating. We suggest resisting the urge to shower immediately after using a sunbed, as it can negatively impact the final result of the tan.

Wear a lip balm with SPF. Your lips are very unlikely to tan but they can burn.
-
Yes! It is very important! Your skin can tan – your eyes can’t! Federal law requires all tanning salons to supply customers with proper eye protection, if you don’t have any you will be required to purchase reusable or disposable eye protection. This eyewear must meet federal government standards by blocking 99% of UVA and UVB rays. Closing the eyelids or using sunglasses or cotton balls is not adequate protection as the UV rays will easily penetrate these things and continue into the eyes.
*Goggles should be replaced every 6 months* -
Please consult your physician. Although we know that there is no danger from UV rays since they cannot penetrate deeper than the dermis (skin layer). Pregnant women are advised to be cautious with saunas, hot tubs and other things that can cause excessive heat to build up in the uterus.

If you are sunburnt, have gotten Botox or Permanent Makeup within 2 weeks, have had a Chemical Peel or Microneedling/Microchanneling within 4 weeks, or if you are taking photosensitizing medication it is not recommended to tan outdoors or indoors. If you aren’t sure, ask your doctor, or ask our tanning consultant to see a list of medications, which can greatly increase the risk of overexposure. A partial list, by no means inclusive, appears below.
Many common medications and even ingredients in food, shampoos & soaps can cause photo sensitivity which may lead to overexposure. If you are taking prescription medications please check with your physician regarding possible photo sensitivity. Perfumes and colognes containing Furocoumarins, compound from natural products such as plants and fruits, can cause your skin to become highly sensitive to UV light. Food and fruits that contain photosensitizing agents: celery, carrots, lime, coriander, parsley, fennel, dill, buttercup, mustard and fig.
Not everyone will experience a photosensitive reaction. Also, someone who experiences a photosensitive reaction once will NOT necessarily experience it again or every time.
Medications will NOT cause the same degree of skin reaction in all individuals.
For answers to any question about a drug or product that you use, you should consult a physician.

Establish your skin type to confirm your suitability and to pinpoint the correct tanning lotion for your skin.
Leading up to the tanning bed session, moisturise your skin daily.
Right before your session, exfoliate your skin thoroughly.
Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Check with your doctor first if you are on medication, as certain medications can react with UV.
If you’re planning a workout that day, do it before a tanning session. That’s because your pores are more dilated post-workout and this may help the UV penetrate more effectively. But you should still make sure you leave time to rehydrate your body after a workout before hopping in the sunbed.
Avoid wearing make-up, perfume or deodorant on the day of the tanning bed session. That’s because these chemicals can negatively impact the even result of the final tan.
Take off watches and jewelry.

Wear protective eyewear. Closing your eyes or wearing sunglasses is not enough protection against UV. Wearing protective eyewear isn't just advisable it's required by law. We have eyewear for purchase if you don't have any.
Wear a lip balm with SPF. Your lips are very unlikely to tan but they can burn.
Change your body position regularly to give attention to hidden or missed areas, for example, where your body has been leaning into the bed.
Wear either underwear or a bikini. Some people also choose to tan naked, but if you’re going down this route, ensure you take extra care of your more sensitive areas to prevent burning. The general rule of thumb is to tan sensitive areas 1-2 minutes less than the rest of your body until there are no tan lines, then you can tan the same amount of time everywhere.
Protect any tattoos you have with recommended balms, especially if you’ve had them done recently. Check with your tattoo studio for further advice.
Apply tanning lotion just before your session. If you don’t have any, our team can suggest a lotion for you!
Do not continue the session if you notice your skin reacting unexpectedly. Everyone is different, so make sure you listen to your body. If you notice your skin itching or developing a rash while on the bed, stop the session and consult a team member.

Drink plenty of water to rehydrate.
Continue moisturizing your skin every day to maintain its health and hydration after a tanning session.
Consider applying a tan extender lotion onto your skin to maximize the effects. These extenders deeply moisturize and replenish nutrients to help your tan last longer.
Repeat the tanning sessions to get the full effects. Usually it takes at least a couple of tanning sessions to see the best results.
Resist the urge to shower immediately after using a sunbed, as it can negatively impact the final result of the tan.
Be sensible about how often you visit, as too much UV exposure can have negative effects on your skin. We recommend leaving at least 24 - 48 hours between each session and avoid tanning more than 2 - 3 times per week.
If you happened to take it just a little too far, try aloe-based gels for immediate relief.
